The Land Reform programme directly addresses the consequences of land dispossessions of the apartheid era. Its core focus is to restore just ownership, build citizenship and promote fair access to the factors of economic production, so that rural people may realize their rightful assets.
Land Reform is TRALSO’s core programme that has been running since 1992 and comprises Land Restitution, Land Tenure and Land Redistribution.
The overall objectives of these projects are:
Facilitation of land claims which were lodged by communities (in terms of the Restitution of Land Rights Act 22 of 1994) through the formation of legal community entities such as Land Trusts, Community Property Associations and Land Claim Clusters
Building awareness and facilitating information dissemination on land rights, polices and processes
Capacity building, community mobilisation and research
The mobilization of rural communities to engage in the process of finding appropriate and alternative land tenure systems.
