programmes : Land Reform : Redistribution

The Transkei homeland is overpopulated with people crammed into small villages with little or no land for development (agricultural or otherwise).

The goal of this component is to assist rural communities to have access and rights to land through the government redistribution programme, affording them a livelihood. It aims to provide access to productive arable land, enabling historically excluded people, including rural women, to participate in the economy.

Through this project, TRALSO lobbies for the redistribution of land with relevant government departments such as the departments of Agriculture and Land Affairs and Regional Land Claims Commission. TRALSO also educates and mobilises rural communities in the Transkei on ACT 126 of the Land Reform Programme.

Today, a number of hectares are owned by the community (including women) with successful projects implemented thereon.
